Flavescence dorée est apparue sur le continent européen dans les années 1920 et a commencé à se propager rapidement, notamment dans le vignoble bordelais depuis 2010. Cette maladie dangereuse des plantes n'est pas encore bien étudiée et assez difficile à contenir. Elle peut provoquer des épidémies entières dans les vignes, ou elle peut se manifester d'une manière plus ou moins évidente d'une année sur l'autre.
